St Edward's Music Society was formed by the present music director, Jonathan Venner, in 1991. The society's main aim is to promote and support music making in and around the Romford area. The society organises a range of musical events from chamber music recitals to large-scale choral and orchestral works. Jonathan Venner has been director of music at St. Edward's Church Romford since 1974. He was appointed whilst still a student at the Royal Academy of Music and has gone on to establish a fine tradition of choral music. The choir consists of some 30 trebles and 16 adults and in addition to singing at the two Sunday choral services they perform regularly in major cathedrals around the country. Under Jonathan's leadership the tradition of joining forces with guest singers, professional soloists and orchestra for the annual choral concert is now well established. Jonathan is currently Team Manager (Creative/Performance Arts and Media) at Havering Sixth Form College in Hornchurch.
